Leadership in Medical Affairs Curriculum
This is a pivotal segment of my portfolio: "Leadership in Medical Affairs." This project represents a significant evolution in my educational design, where I had to transform extensive PowerPoint material into immersive, interactive Storyline and Rise courses. The expectation from the client and me was a rich blend of video and audio elements that elevated the already fantastic learning experience.
Let’s dive in and discover how we redefined educational engagement in the medical affairs sector.
Audience: Medical Affairs Industry Leaders
Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning development, visual design, sound design
Tools Used: Storyline 360, Rise, Canva, Illustrator, Audacity, Camtasia
As the lead designer at Light Ten in partnership with the GMDP Academy, I led the development of the Leadership in Medical Affairs course, tailored for Medical Affairs professionals aiming to elevate their role's impact. This course was crafted in partnership with Tufts University's Center for the Study of Drug Development (CSDD), blending theoretical and practical aspects of leadership within the Medical Affairs domain.
Participants gained valuable leadership perspectives from industry veterans and connected with an international network of biomedical professionals through case study analyses and discussions. The course structure included diverse interactive elements like panels, lectures, webinars, and forums, facilitating robust networking opportunities with faculty and industry peers.
This course, now a part of the professionals' formal training portfolio, has been instrumental in honing their leadership skills, enabling them to contribute effectively to strategic decision-making in their organizations.
It was a lot of fun to design.
The Genesis of a Dynamic eLearning Program
The journey began with the original PowerPoint presentations provided by the faculty, forming the bedrock of our educational content. As the lead instructional designer at GMDP Academy, I spearheaded a project that transformed these foundational materials into a vibrant, interactive eLearning course.
Harnessing Expertise and Media
Our first step was to integrate audio recordings from the faculty, enhancing the PowerPoint slides with their expert insights. We then transcribed these audio files, ensuring accessibility and reinforcing the learning material. The lecture video was a threefold endeavor, comprising an engaging introduction, a comprehensive deep dive into the subject, and a thought-provoking conclusion, each crafted to captivate our learners.
Expanding Learning Horizons
To enrich our course, we incorporated third-party video assets, such as YouTube links, providing diverse perspectives and real-world context. We worked diligently to create original animations and graphics, which were later refined into captivating visual aids that aligned seamlessly with our educational goals.
Engaging and Assessing Learners
The course's interactive element was bolstered with carefully designed discussion questions, encouraging learners to reflect and engage deeply with the material. We also included closed caption files for all our videos, adhering to our commitment to inclusivity.
Comprehensive Learning Tools
Supplementing our core content, we developed a study guide and a reflection journal tie-in, offering learners structured pathways to consolidate their understanding. Our relationship with subject matter experts (SMEs) was pivotal in reviewing both the eLearning content and the study guide, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
Behind the Scenes: Documenting and Safeguarding Our Work
Our internal design document served as a blueprint throughout the project, guiding our team in maintaining a cohesive vision. Copyright review, conducted both internally and by SMEs, ensured that all materials met legal and ethical standards.
Final Touches and Deployment
To give our faculty a voice in the course, we scripted transition phrases for them to record, bridging different sections of the program. Rigorous quality assurance checks preceded the final step – publishing and testing the course in our Learning Management System (LMS).
The Culmination: Launching Our Vision
Finally, the moment of triumph: going live! Our collaborative effort culminated in an innovative eLearning program, a testament to the dedication and expertise of our instructional design team, graphic designers, animators, and SMEs under my leadership.
